Are You Suffering from Indigestion?

Indigestion is a very common problem and often we do not take it very seriously. Although, it is not deadly but in a long run it can lead to many major health problems and conditions. Indigestion can cause bloating, heartburn, acid reflux and gastritis. High intake of spicy foods or fatty foods is one of the most common reasons of indigestion. Besides foods, stress and anxiety can also cause indigestion. Bad eating habits or bad eating techniques can lead to indigestion as well.

Stomach produces a strong acid that helps to digest foods and also protect infections. A layer of mucus lines your stomach, oesophagus and bowel to act as a barrier against this acid.

If the mucous layer is damaged, your stomach acid can irritate the tissues underneath. Drinking too much alcohol and smoking is bad for the health. Both these situations can contribute to indigestion. Pregnant women often suffer from indigestion. In the normal case of indigestion, prescription drugs are used to reduce the acid production. In the severe cases of indigestion or in the prolonged indigestion immediate help of doctor should be taken.

Indigestion can lead to serious health problems. In the case of continuous or prolonged indigestion you should seek for professional advice as soon as possible. The doctor may perform an upper endoscopy.  The doctor can also look at the esophagus and stomach with the endoscope to check for any stomach abnormality.

Remember, never take indigestion lightly. You can improve your indigestion naturally. Good eating habits and good food habits can minimize the chances of indigestion. Also, you need to drink lots of water.
