Benefits of Ginger Tea as a Cold and Flu Remedy

Ginger is known for its therapeutic effects. Ginger contains many therapeutic properties and that’s why it is considered as one of the most powerful ingredients for herbal remedies. Ginger tea is a very common and effective natural medicine for cold and the flu. It is also very helpful to treat stomach flu which is caused by the virus. Ginger is available in two forms- dried ginger and fresh ginger. Both the forms contain high medicinal properties and can be used in many remedies. Fresh ginger is a better option when it comes to treat colds and cough. It also tastes less strong than the dried ginger. Ginger tea is a natural cold remedy and probably the best treatment for the common cold.

Ginger contains certain amounts of calcium, phosphorous, iron, B vitamins and Vitamin C. But the main medicinal benefits come from the Gingerol. Gingerol or 6-Gingerol is an active agent found in ginger, which is known for providing some very important health benefits.

How to Make Ginger Tea?

Ginger tea can be made plain or mix with other herbs and ingredients such as cinnamon, peppermint, honey and lemon.


Step 1: Peel a fresh piece of ginger root (size about 1 inch)

Step 2: Cut it thin slices

Step 3: Boil two cups of water

Step 4: Add the chopped ginger

Step 5: Cover it and lower the heat to simmer

Step 6: Wait for 20 minutes

Step 7: Strain the tea as it is now ready to drink

Step 8: Add honey to make it sweet

You can also add few drops of lemon to enhance the taste.

So, as you can see it’s very easy to make ginger tea! You can also use dried ginger to make ginger tea. But fresh ginger is always preferable.  Make sure you are not consuming more than 4gm of ginger per day. Pregnant women should avoid taking ginger.

Ginger tea or ginger root tea is a fantastic remedy for colds and clod related problems. It helps to relieve congestion and also reduces the pain. Ginger tea gives comfort to sore throat as it provides relief from the pain. Both ginger and ginger root tea are also associated with the treatment of headaches and cramps. Ginger tea warms the body and promotes healthy sweating. This is very helpful to fight first stages of a cold.
