Best Foods for Diabetes

For the diabetics it is very important to eat right foods to keep the blood glucose level normal. A diabetes diet is simply a healthy eating plan that is high in nutrients, low in fat, and moderate in calories. Also, to control diabetes one must lose weight and exercise regularly. Overweight and weight around abdomen can lead to diabetes. It is advisable to cut down the intake of fructose for lowering the risk of developing diabetes. To control the diabetes, you must have healthy food choices and a good meal plan. Consult your doctor for your diabetes food pyramid as food plan differs from person to person depending on the medical condition. Here in this article we are presenting a list of foods which are generally considered good for the diabetics.

Foods good for diabetics:

  • Different types of beans - kidney, pinto, navy or black beans etc.

  • Go for citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, lemon and lime to get more Vitamin C.

  • Whole grains (barley, oats, millets etc.) and whole grain products.

  • Nuts & seeds especially flaxseeds and walnuts.

  • High fibre vegetables such as peas, beans, broccoli, spinach and green leafy vegetables.

  • High fibre fruits such as apple, pear, guava and papaya.

  • Fat free or low fat yogurt and butter milk.

  • Omega-3 fatty acids rich fish such as salmon.

  • Choose oil with healthy fat content such as olive oil and canola oil.

  • Drink plenty of water.

In addition, you must note that some of the vitamins and minerals are considered beneficial for diabetics and these are including alpha-lipoic acid or ALA, biotin, carnitine, chromium, zinc, potassium, magnesium, manganese, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, niacin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Vitamin E.
