An adequate and good sleep is extremely important for our well-being.  A healthy diet, regular physical activity and adequate sleep can prevent many health problems. Adults need at least 7–8 hours of sleep each night to be well rested. If you don’t get enough sleep that can lead to many dangerous health problems including diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. Studies also suggested that lack of sleep can be a reason for weight gain and obesity. Some people suffer from sleep disorder for various reasons. There are different types of sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea etc. These disorders can be treated with the help of medicines & medical advice.

But sleep problem can also be improved by following a good diet. There are many foods that can help you to sleep better. Various nutrients in these foods have been shown to play a role in regulating sleep. Given below is a list of foods, bedtime snacks that can help you sleep better.

  • Fish such as halibut, tuna and cod
  • Fortified Cereals like oatmeal
  • Fruits including banana, cherries, papaya, watermelon, grapefruit, oranges
  • Vegetables including kale, bell peppers, broccoli, spinach
  • Chamomile tea
  • Dairy products such as milk and yogurt
  • Nuts especially walnuts and almonds
  • Jasmine rice



Also, to get good sleep you must avoid drinking caffeine before going to the bed. You need to avoid alcohol consumption and smoking before going for a good night sleep. Taking hot bath before going to the bed can also help you to sleep well. See a doctor if you continue to have trouble sleeping.
